In April 2021 the United States Department of State recognized April as National Arab American Heritage Month. The Arab American community in the U.S. is estimated today to number 3.7 million people.

Arab Americans constitute an ethnicity made up of several waves of immigrants from Arabic-speaking countries of the Middle East, North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa that have been settling in sizable numbers in the United States since the 1880s.

Today’s Arab American community is made up of individuals with heritage that reflects a culture that is thousands of years old and have roots from one of 22 Arab countries in the Middle East and North Africa: Algeria, Bahrain, the Comoros Islands, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.
